The Key to Success is….

Some say the key to success is having a clear vision and then executing with a focused plan of action. Others would say it’s creating a thriving team, one that is aligned with your vision. It’s also been said that achievement comes from luck, timing or who you know. There are many opinions on this topic.

Your achievement begins with defining what success is to you. Once you have a clear picture, you can begin putting the pieces of this puzzle together.

Tony Hsieh, founder and CEO of Zappos, believes that profit comes from the connection to passion and purpose. After Amazon acquired Zappos, Hsieh says they collectively came up with their own set of ten core values. These values bonded them and are an important part of the path that led us to this moment.

Zappos’ mission statement speaks to a key of success. Their mission is to deliver happiness to the ends of the earth: one company, one employee, one individual at a time. Be an ambassador of happiness and help get the word out!

What is your definition of success? If you do not know, take some time to figure it out. Imagine yourself one, three, five years from now. What is present in your business and life at that time? What are the qualities, characteristics and attributes of the success you see yourself experiencing?

“I don’t know the key to success, but the key to failure is trying to please everybody.”  ~~ Bill Cosby

This quote speaks to the clarity and courage it takes to claim your definition and achieve it. If you are trying to put a key in a door where it does not fit, it will not open the lock. Create your authentic definition and then take the steps to achieve it. My next article will give you tips to achieving your unique definition of success.

The Insiders Scoop on How to Receive Recognition in your Field

The winners are in from this year’s Academy Awards and the results are telling. I assert that each winner, of the 24 categories, had the following ingredients in their Recipe for Success.

  • Clear vision of what they were creating
  • The right actors in place
  • A confident producer and director
  • A plan
  • Patience

How is the movie titled “Your Life” playing out?  Are you leading your team members and clients in just the way the script you chose directs you? Or are you a bad-boy actor and breaking all of the rules? Do you find yourself more in the producer role, having the vision, but the right team is not in place – so things are not happening the way you envisioned? Or are you the director, telling everyone else what to do, yet not doing exactly what you need to do as the leader?

Now is the perfect time to put all of the pieces in place so you reap the rewards you desire. Here are 5 ways to clinch the “movie of your life” award.

  1. Clarify the vision of what you are producing:  During my signature presentation, Recipes for Success, I invite the audience to define what success looks like for them. The variety of definitions is astounding. They range from financial freedom to abundant health; fulfilling relationships to a job that they love. As you gain clarity around what success is for you, you can then start to gather the perfect people, perspectives and opportunities to achieve your definition with ease.

2. Find the right actors: It is often said that you become like the people with whom you associate. Let’s take a quick inventory here. Think of the five people that you spend the most time with. Are they aligned with your goals and dreams? If so, bravo! If not, it may be time to find new actors to star in your movie. Gain clarity on what the qualities are of the people you want. For example, if you want increased health and wealth and your colleagues are overweight smokers who complain about their lack of money, then your odds of being healthy and wealthy are not likely.Surround yourself with people who have the same intentions as you, so you can celebrate your achievements together. You may want to create a Strategic Attraction Plan to attract just the right people to you.

3. Increase your confidence as the director: Do you think that Steven Spielberg is lacking in confidence when it comes to telling his actors what to do? He has been nominated for seven Academy Awards and has won two awards, one for Schindler’s List and one for Saving Private Ryan. With a net worth of $3.2 Billion and more popular films and television shows that I care to name here, he is confident of what he is creating in the world—amazing movies.

One way to increase confidence is to put your attention on the things that you do well and your accomplishments. If you continue to focus on what is not working and what you are not good at, you will get more of that. Acknowledge and praise yourself, just like you would your best friend or child.

4. Plan your work and work your plan: It is that simple. When you have a clear vision of what you are creating, have the right people in place and are performing tasks you excel at, you are well on the way to the gold trophy. When you do not have a strategy or digress from your plan, you fall behind and your goals and intentions slip through your fingers. This is where having a Joy Strategist on your team comes into play. 5. Be patient: I often hear that patience is a virtue, why can’t “hurry up” be a virtue?  It takes many years for a movie to go from a vision to completion. The average length of time is takes for a business to reach its definition of success is three to five years.  Set yourself up for success by knowing that dreams do take time to come true. Gather the resources you need to build your award winning movie and work your steps from there.

Choose one of these tips to focus on each week over the next five weeks. Which one will it be to support you in creating and achieving your goals and dreams? When you master these five, you better start thinking about what you will be wearing on the red carpet next year.

Is your Company a Comedy, a Drama or a Horror Film?

With the Academy Awards just around the corner, I invite you to you ponder what award you want to be nominated for in the movie called, “Your Life.” Would it be best director, producer or best actor or actress?

Let’s look more closely at how to create an award-winning “film”. If you viewed your life and business as if you were creating a movie, you would break it down into a few different pieces.

I. First, there would be the plot or the theme.

II. Second, you would then carefully cast your star players, the actors, and script their parts so the picture would be compelling.

III. Third, as the director, you would ponder the intention of each scene and choose the perspective that is in alignment with your vision.

Let’s take a look at your business with this metaphor in mind . . .

Is your company a comedy, a drama or a horror film? What is the title of your film? Is it Slumdog Millionaire, Life is Beautiful, or Almost Famous? Once you decide what your genre or focus is, break down the movie of your life scene by scene. These are the intentions you want to create that depict what you want to accomplish.

It’s audition time! Who are going to be the players in your film? What are the qualities of the stars? (Your staff!) Who are your supporting cast members and what attributes do they bring to the table? From there, decide what lens you want to use as the director. In your business, this is your mindset. How do you see yourself as a leader and how do you see your team in helping you create the success that you want?

Having all of this in place may not win a real Oscar, but it will set you up for success. Put your focus and attention on what you want! This allows you to create a plan to support that attraction. Partner it with the right perspective and a bit of joy, and you are on your way to the red carpet to receive your Oscar.

How does your integrity (or lack of it) affect success?

What is the connection between integrity, joy and success?

======================================

Real integrity is doing the right thing, knowing that
nobody’s going to know whether you did it or not.

~~Oprah Winfrey

======================================

Integrity is one of those words that show up a lot as I work with my clients. What does it really mean? Dictionary.com says “it is adherence to moral and ethical principles or the state of being whole.” WendyWatkins.com enhanced version is the above, combined with deliberate actions that raise your Joy Factor.

For those of you that have a value of integrity, or it’s sprinkled amongst your resolutions, goals or theme for the year, here is a real world example that you may resonate with. You tell yourself you’re going to exercise 3 days a week after work. You also mention to your best friend that you are available to help her with her kids as she figures out how to work full-time and be a single-parent. And your commitment to completing one project per day at work is looming over you as the clock ticks away. How do you figure out what is most important? If integrity is at the top of your list, it is imperative to know what that means to you and how to honor it.

David Truman of the Living Love Fellowship offers an interesting perspective on integrity. Think of integrity as following your heart, a very important act of love for yourself and others. When you have a decision to make, consider that a fork in your road to joy; a place to choose what direction will bring you closer to internal gratification.

If you follow your heart, you are living in alignment with what you know and feel is true, which helps you to avoid behaviors that you know and feel are wrong. If you ignore your heart and are out of integrity, you will do something you feel bad about or you’re just not sure what to do. The results from this simple choice affect your self-image; if you are in alignment with your heart and in integrity, you think you are a good person. If you ignore your heart, you may think you are no good. The effects from this action or inaction will leave you feeling positive about yourself and open to being loved. You feel presentable, desiring to be seen and known, and can enter into relationships with confidence. Or, you can feel undeserving of love, so attention is hard to accept. If you think you are “bad”, you don’t want to be known or seen by others.

Imagine the different messages this gives to others; I am happy to be in relationship with you and you are welcome into my life. This will be most attractive to the people most important in your life. If you don’t want to be seen and prefer to be left alone because you didn’t follow your heart, then people may feel you are unreceptive to them and will feel shut out and disconnected from you. When your actions are aligned with integrity, people will feel your receptivity and openness and will want to spend time with you.

Increasing optimism is a driving factor to your success; it is essential to consider how this powerful characteristic shows up in your days. Here are five direct benefits integrity has that will affect your disposition, and in turn the results you accomplish:

  1. When you follow your heart and do what you tell yourself you are going to do, your self-worth and self-confidence increases. This allows you to move towards your goals and objectives with increased ease.
  2. Your energy level elevates and you operate in alignment with your values, goals and intentions. This is where work feels effortless.
  3. Your increased confidence is enticing to others. This self-assurance will support you in attracting new customers, alliances and support from your colleagues.
  4. Your clarity continues to increase about what is most important and you can shift accordingly to ensure you remain on your road to joy.
  5. Your Joy Factor increases and you enjoy your delicious life.

Life is filled with choices and opportunities and having a road map with integrity as part of your compass will support you in moving towards your goals with increased optimism.

Sustain the Feeling of Joy, Happiness and Inspired Action from the Inside Out

What does patience combined with vision, persistence and a dose of joy provide?  An ideal life filled with joy, success and fulfillment.

Wayne and Wendy in 1993.

For my seventeenth birthday, my mom brought me to see Wayne Dyer talk about his latest book, Your Erroneous Zones. I couldn’t have cared less about Wayne or his book, I wanted new shoes, but my mom thought this would help me sort things out during my tumultuous teen years. Dyer’s talk was inspiring, yet something extraordinary happened to me that day. I witnessed the positive impact that one man had on a roomful of people. His stories, message and confident, yet approachable attitude was compelling.  His passion for personal development lit a spark in me that was flamed by the likes of Louise Hay and Shaktai Gawain, two amazing pioneers in the personal development field in the early eighties.  Little did I know, thirty-three years later, I would publish a book and be onstage teaching people how to raise their Joy Factor to create more success and fulfillment.

I am thrilled to announce the launch of www.WendyWatkins.com, the go-to website for organizations looking for an enthusiastic presenter to teach their people how to amplify optimism to boost success by raising their Joy Factor.

What is your Joy Factor?

The last four years have opened up people’s perspective on what is truly important in life. The recession had many reevaluate what is essential, including what brings happiness. Jobs, houses and retirement accounts have come and gone. People realize they can survive with less, yet the desire to thrive with ease is palpable. The acquisition of “things” brings a temporary sense of joy and satisfaction, yet when the newness is gone, the quest for something else to make us happy begins. A similar search for contentment is happening at companies around the globe.

Feeling positive and energized offers the ease that people are craving. When your Joy Factor is increased by deliberately integrating elements and circumstances that provide sustainable happiness into your days, productivity, success and fulfillment is enhanced dramatically. My passion for teaching how to sustain that feeling of joy, happiness and inspired action from the inside out is a result of my early vision, patience and persistence.

Welcome to Wendy Watkins’ Blog

As we get ready to begin a new year, I am pleased to share information to support you in increasing your optimism to boost your success. These two qualities go beautifully together, similar to a fine wine paired with the right food. Each one enhances the others ability to be its best.  When you are feeling optimistic and are able to view the world from a place of positivity, your connection with others improves, as well as your ability to make decisions and move forward towards your goals and intentions with inspired action. This delicious combination will move you toward successe

Think of this blog as a tasty buffet of information sourced from a variety of places. A good bit of what will be shared will come from my Joy Factor philosophy shared in my book, The Joy Factor Recipe Book – A Common Sense Approacd to a Delicious Life. As an life long learner, you will also read information from the latest books and studies on the relationship between happiness and success.

My philosophy is that our life is like a cookbook and everyday we choose a different recipe to produce. The choice of ingredients you use in your recipe will make an impact on how “delicious” your recipe is. You can be the judge of your own cooking by noticing if you are moving through your days with ease or struggle, with productivity or stagnation, fulfillment or disappointment. From here you can adjust your ingredients so your days become more delicious.

The four ingredients that I’ll share from my book is Strategic Optimism, Self-Care, Authentic Expression and Passion. These will be complimented with other ingredients that I source along the way.  Some of them you will be familiar with, others may be new. If you are tired of eating the same thing again and again, then you are in the perfect place to try something new to enhance the results you are experiencing.

Look for something new and tasty each week. When something resonates with you, I urge you to weave either the ingredient or new way of cooking into your day. The best that can happen is that you feel a bit more joy and actually reach your goals this year. Now that is delicious!

I will leave you with the words of the very wise Julia Child, “…Learn how to cook-try new recipes, learn from your mistakes, be fearless, and above all have fun!”
